The Swedish stoner scene has really come into it's own. As it has been pointed out, Swedish stoner bands are no longer Kyuss clones, this split by the Truckfighters and Firestone being the perfect example. This also happens to be the first release from the new label Fuzzorama Records. The Truckfighters play a swirling kaleidoscope of trippy sounds that is a combination of stoner and psychedelic with a hint of metal. The band features clean vocals that sometimes sound as if they are coming out of a radio. Hard fuzz guitars with some heavy riffs and short but sweet solos. A rolling bass and furious skin pounding with hellacious back beats make up the rhythm section. They have a bit of a Led Zeppelin influence with some drawn out jams. Firestone is stoner band that has progressed quite a bit from their Mexicon EP, which I'm a big fan of. They still play fuzzed-out guitars with a bit of a psychedelic feeling and retro sounding solos. The vocals are sung, not hollered or growled. Very nicely I might add. A buzzing rhythm section keep it all in place. Their music has gotten a bit darker feeling over the years. Fuzzsplit of the century is an excellent example of two stoner bands from Sweden busting out of the confines of 'stoner rock'. This is the first time I have heard the Truckfighters, and I'm impressed and Firestone continues to develop as a band. Both bands hail from Orebro, Sweden.
